With "tax day" behind you, you're probably thinking, "wouldn't it be nice if I didn't have to pay any taxes"? Unfortunately that isn't the case. If you're a homeowner, you're well aware of the tax breaks that come with home ownership. If you're not, today's lending options and first time home buyer incentives make it even easier to realize some of those tax breaks. Regardless of whether you are currently a homeowner or intending to become one, there are a few things everyone should know: existing home owners may be eligible for a $2,000 federal tax credit this year, $15,000 in grant funding will be awarded to home builders in King county and opt-out services make it even easier to protect your credit. $2,000 Tax Credit for Home Builders
The Federal Energy Policy Act allows home builders to claim a tax credit of $2,000 for qualifying, energy-efficient homes completed after December 31, 2005 and can be claimed on homes placed in service until December 31, 2007. To claim the credit, a builder must have the home's energy performance estimated and certified by an accredited independent certifier. $15,000 Grants Available: Are You Eligible? The King County/Seattle Built Green™ incentive provides funding for single-family residential and community development projects to help offset the cost of certifying and designing innovative green projects throughout Seattle and King County. The Built Green™ grants are open to any project in King County including the City of Seattle. Projects must meet all the following criteria:
- New construction projects only
- Single family detached or attached projects
- Projects seeking Built Green 4-star certification or above
- Project must be prior to final building permit issuance by application due date and preferably in early design.
- Project must be enrolled with the Master Builders Association's Built Green™ program and at least one member of the project team must be a member of Built Green.
- Applicant must be project owner or builder.

Protecting Your Credit Each year American consumers receive billions of written offers of credit they did not request. In many cases, the senders have prescreened the recipients for creditworthiness using consumer credit records held by consumer reporting agencies.
